The construction of a second container terminal just two kilometres to the north is technically feasible and would make economic sense in the medium term. This is the outcome of a feasibility study commissioned at the end of 2013.

A competition and market study conducted in 2019 has revealed that the construction of a second container terminal is economically feasible and would also make sense. In view of the long planning and approval processes, planning combined with regular market monitoring will continue and be advanced in a manner that the second construction phase is ready to start operations when the market calls for it.
